Cary,
That Ayn Rand/survival of the fittest crap is the core of the Republican position. I like that philosophy as little as i like Welfare State mantra of the democrats. Partys and sloganeering prevents us from getting to real solutions. I consider myself a Progressive in the mold of a TR. If it is proved to me that vouchers work(not yet proved), I would scrap the Public school system if necessary. Same with ideas from the left such as occurred in civil rights movement and more recently with gay rights and womens rights.
What really gets me going is posts that talk about the individual as if all that is involved is merit. What about family ties? Noone on this thread believes Bush would be President if he wasnt Bush and I am talking about SR here as well as JR. How many other deserving Yalies would be better choices?
Or if someone needs prozac to perform normally in society but the family cant afford it. Shouldnt there be a leveling of the playing field there? mike
