Mitch, would you be open to the possibility of design being involved?

Of course! :)

So far, we have focused on the feasibility of evolution as a proximal explanation for life on earth. I seem to be in the minority here that it is possible without some guiding intelligence.

What we have not focused on are the problems associated with assuming that some great intelligence has created us. Some questions should be answered...

Why is the human eye designed with the nerves between the cones and the lens? It lessens resolution and creates the need for a blind spot in each eye.

Why are the respiratory and food passages linked? This causes several problems, with choking being the most obvious.

Why are reproductive and excretory systems linked? This increases chance for infections.

Why nipples on men?

It seems that if Yahweh is great enough to overcome the 10^300 billion odds of making a protein molecule, He would not make mistakes easily avoided by a first-year engineering or biology student.

And so far, we have not assumed benevolence, omnipotence, or omniscience, which are qualities that bring up many more questions.
