Well, the media really didn't press Clinton where it should have. Surely, because of folks like Drudge the media had to cover much of the Lewinsky/Jones sex scandals, but they constantly dropped the ball on everything else (bombing of Sudan, Filegate, Chinagate, the Templegate, etc...). There just was no real cutting-edge investigative reporting done on these issues by the mainstream media. Even the Broaderick interview was scrapped by the media until a constant public outcry coaxed an airing. And even that airing had been so savagely edited that only the heart of the allegations made it to the screen. And even the during the scandals that the media did cover, the Democrat mantras that countered the scandals always got more airtime than everything else. I just don't think a Republican president in Clinton's shoes would stand nearly the same chance of survival as did Clinton. The mainstream media is essentially a liberal's weapon. Conservatives must rely upon their own media outlets to get anything done.

They certainly gave him a pass. What you are missing was that his corruption was so massive and overt they couldn't completely ignore it.

To make it brief (there's a LOT that could be said): The mainstream media treated Watergate as a holy crusade to rid the nation of a terribly corrupt president. They covered the Clinton impeachment as an attempt by sour grapes Republicans to get revenge for the election. Neither coverage was objective, unbiased, or realistic, but it made the ENTIRE difference in the ultimate result. And their left-wing commitment was illuminated to all but the most glassy-eyed liberals...
