From the links that mr.mark provided:

This is directed at 720 series printers but I was searching for 812 when I was directed to it. I don't know how your printer could be set up this way if just installed, but here it is anyway. Might get us closer.

ISSUE: Printing to an HP DeskJet 720 series printer with the HP Printing System for Windows - v 10.0 - 720 Series Driver, and the driver settings set to Grayscale, Manual (no options changed) and EconoFast, may generate an error. The message will state, "There was an error writing to LPT1; for the printer (HP DeskJet 720C Series): There was a problem printing to the printer due to an unknown system error. Restart Windows, and then try printing again." The error, "Printer Driver Problem: Data required by the printer cannot be found or has been corrupted. Restart Windows and try printing again.", may also appear. The printer may eject a blank page. This occurs in all applications in Windows 95.

WORKAROUND: The problem occurs only when Manual, Grayscale, and EconoFast are selected together. To avoid error messages, choose Automatic under the Color tab, or select either the Normal or Best mode under the Setup tab. Selecting Manual, Options and choosing Pattern will also enable Grayscale printing in EconoFast, without errors.
