I understand that IJ has asked Globalstar/Lorals CEO Bernard Schwartz to program Globalstar satellites to become de-active when passing over Chinese territory.. That'll show'em who's boss... In addition.. Loral has announced that it is temporarily suspending the LAB PORTIONS of it's hugely popular clandestine Class being taught at Beijing University titled.

"Secret techniques in Soldering Rocket Wires and other Connections -101."

However, in order to ease tensions between the two countries.. Bernard Schwartz went on to clarify that the Lecture portions of the Class will continue uninterrupted..

On a non-related note.. The employees of Interdigital celebrated the issue of US Patent #6,226,316 last week..

Titled: Spread spectrum adaptive power control communications system and method

However, it should be noted that this patent is simply a "continuation-in-part of" U.S. Pat. No. 5,093,840. Issued to SCS Mobilecom, Inc on March 3, 1992. (filed Nov. 1990)

Note: SCS MobileCom was acquired by Interdigital in 1992..

Adaptive power control for a spread spectrum transmitter
Abstract

An apparatus for adaptive-power control of a spread-spectrum transmitter of a mobile station operating in a cellular-communications network using spread-spectrum modulation. A base station transmits a generic spread-spectrum signal and an APC-data signal. A mobile station has an acquisition circuit for acquiring and decoding the generic spread-spectrum signal, a detector for detecting a received power level of the generic spread-spectrum signal, a decoder for decoding the APC-data signal as a threshold, a differential amplifier for generating a comparison signal by comparing the received power level to the threshold, a transmitter for transmitting a transmitter spread-spectrum signal, an antenna, and a variable-gain device responsive to the comparison signal indicating an increase or decrease for adjusting a transmitter-power level of the transmitter spread-spectrum signal.
