The skepticism toward Trinidad is summed up well by Michael Katz:Tito is somewhat of an acquired taste. There is nothing dazzling about him, no combinations that make you think of Sugar Shane Mosley or Roy Jones Jr., his only two rivals now for best fighter in the world. His punches are hard and accurate, not fancy. He has been troubled by movement. He gets knocked down. You know him: He comes forward, gets hit, goes down, gets up and wins, goes back to Puerto Rico. He is "creeping death," a locomotive that just wears down opponents. No one gets stronger with the rounds as he does. One thing missing in Katz' analysis is that Tito has the power of a heavyweight in his fists, even when he was a welterweight. That's why de la Hoya began to run for his life. It is why Vargas was knocked down a million times. It is why Joppy will never be the same after this bout. Trinidad's punching power and killer instinct are rare commodities in the history of boxing. Robinson, Foreman, Louis and a few others, are in a select group of all time murderous punchers. Guys who just ruin fighters after they fight them. Fighters who have a punch that just feels different than anybody else's. And when they have you hurt, the sand in the hourglass has just about run out. My call on the round was based on being unimpressed with Joppy. I felt he deserved to be at least a 3 - 1 underdog to a fighter who is literally a legend in his own time.Message 15761643 Now we have Trinidad and Hopkins in September. That is truly a fight to look forward to. The difference between Joppy and Hopkins is that Hopkins knows how to swim in deep water . It's no coincidence that Hopkins summed up Joppy's dilemma vs Trinidad better than anybody. It's why the phrase struck a chord with you. It's this understanding of what to do inside the ring that separates Hopkins and Joppy. Plus he's a much better fighter. Hopkins will be a much tougher fight for Trinidad. At the end of the day though, it will be Felix "Tito" Trinidad by late round KO over "The Executioner" Bernard Hopkins. Bruce
