i noticed when i use my yahoo email (still free ho ho), that there are advertisements that pop up. how new is this and will this alienate users ?

Ike,

This new advertising format was placed in effect on May 1, 2001. The same date the voice mail became fee based.

I do not believe it will alienate anyone. I hardly notice it.

one of the ads was for flowers. i don't get it. doesn't everyone in the usa already know one eight hundred flowers and would phone them if they wanted to send flowers to loved ones five states away ?

The timing was appropriate with both spring's arrival and Mother's Day. There are other options besides 1-800 flowers and there is also impluse buying that way with a click of the mouse. I believe they saw some on-line click through from those advertisements.
