i am sorry you were unable to resolve your printing problem.

i sincerely believe that the hp support links (and the flow chart site) provided to you ( #reply-15723875 ) should have been comprehensive enough to help you find your solution. is it possible that you may have missed a few steps, or a few troubleshooting documents along the way? perhaps the whole process became overwhelming, and you could not follow along?

in using the hp support site suggested steps to fix your printer trouble, i was led to this document...

HP Deskjet printers - Troubleshooting Garbled Printing and Communication Problems in Windows 95 and 98 (Parallel Connection)
hp.com

i arrived at that document by following the 'search' instructions listed under the 'resource' heading on this page i provided to you in an earlier post....

HP DeskJet Printers - Error Writing to LPT1
hp.com

if you are up to the task, i strongly recommend that you navigate to the document listed above in bold text, then work your way methodically through the topics you find on that page, which include:

Basic troubleshooting

Add-in devices

Windows troubleshooting

Cable issues

Port settings

Related documents

Contact HP

all of this information is specific to your model of printer, and if the answer isn't contained in these pages, bidder, i can't imagine where it would be. does this make sense to you?

additionally, in searching back through our posts i came across #reply-15727488 from you, which did not receive a reply, in which you asked...

"when I go to device manager & click on the POrts Icon it lists the ports but none of them have a + sign in front of them! I think this might be my problem. Do you know how to rectify it?"

... and to answer that for you, the + sign you are seeing is merely to expand the topic, that is, the plus sign indicates that there are more sub-topics contained within the signed topic, and they can be accessed by clicking on the +.

i hope this helps, bidder. if you have really reached that point where you need to take your pc to a repair shop, at least you will soon have the problem resolved. if. otoh, you wish to stick with this, i urge you to dig back into the links provided.

let us know. and good luck

:)
