Aluminum + Power Generation

-- Rails99, thanks for the reply, Iso posted some charts on Friday on a couple of mining companies that created some curiosity on my part.

I'm thinking since the auto industry is in a downturn I was curious how the price of aluminum is holding up. Mining companies tend to move in unison with the underlying commodity.

I was surprised by the Alcoa chart, even more surprised by the Alcan chart! It seems power generation has made these companies recession proof(!?)

Since there's a diversion of power resources from aluminum smelting -- to the power grid, the price of aluminum must be fairly stable.

Once the business cycle favors the auto industry, there could even be a shortage...

Anyway, I'm thinking out loud and by the looking at the charts I'm probably a little late to the party.

...or a little early, since my strategy is to buy and hold :)

Regards
Frank P.
