Spekulatius- I am sorry to learn that you are not sure of your conviction, specially since I remember one of Jesse's maxims:

"Without faith in his own judgement no man can go very far in this game."

I believe that when a stock price moves up or down, the company's valuation has increased or decreased, albeit temporarily as it may be, and I believe it is important to try to determine the reason for that move, wether it was due to some news that could affect the company on a temporary or a longer lasting basis, or wether it could be news that could have some similar effect on comparable or related companies.

In spite of your name, you may not be aware that when you buy a stock you are engaged in some sort of speculation.
I believe that most people that buy or "invest" on a company, do that with the idea that some time in the future they will eventually derive some "profit" from their "investment".

If you "invest" for the "long term" it is usually best to try to get a good "entry point". As Jesse used to say:
"If you begin right you will not see your profitable position seriously menaced and you will find no trouble in sitting tight." And remember that: "It is the big swing that makes the big money for you."

For those who "invest" trying to take also advantage of some "short term" "spikes" or "dips" it is usually advantageous to try to concentrate on the companies that are "moving" faster than others in the group.Although you may not be able to catch those 10% or higher moves in one day, it is good to remember that there are more than 50 weeks in a year and if one could just average 1% a week, one could be able to obtain a nice yearly return on "investment". At any rate, as Jesse used to say:
"The thing to determine is the speculative line of least resistance. You should always wait for the moment when that line defines itself, because that is the signal to get busy." "It is usually best to go with the trend.".<g>

Have a good day.

Bernard
