The 97% of the fiber in the ground figure is somewhat misleading. The fiber laid a few years ago is basically obselete. It costs a lot more to light dark fiber than to originally lay it in the ground. The new stuff available today had much higher capacity per cable, and the cost to light it per capacity is much less. I believe it would be a good business decision for a company to just abandon existing fiber and buy and bury new stuff. GLW seems to feel that fiber sales will continue quite strong for the forseeable future. I think that this view is the more likely one, and the analysts misconstrue the true economic of lighting cable in the ground vs new stuff. GLW is probably one of the great value/growth plays out there today. but a bit of patience may well be required. jmho. larry
