This is 2 months old, but the first time I read it. Hope it's not old news to everyone. This answers the question, "Where will GX get it's supply of fiber?"

Global Marine, OCC and NEC Announce Strategic Alliance To Deliver Integrated Submarine Cable Networks

Chelmsford and Tokyo, 8th March 2001 - NEC Corporation (NEC), Global Marine Systems Ltd.(Global Marine) and OCC Corporation (OCC) today announced a strategic alliance to deliver integrated submarine cable networks. Combining their respective expertise in the development and the turnkey implementation of submarine cable networks, the three companies will capitalize on their strengths to develop high quality, speed-to-market and cost-efficient submarine network infrastructure.

NEC, a leading turnkey system supplier and manufacturer of submarine telecommunication systems, and Global Marine, the world leader in marine installation and operation, and OCC, a provider of the most high-quality submarine cable, will collaborate to bring fully integrated network offers to their global customers. With this agreement, NEC, Global Marine and OCC are executing their shared vision to provide integrated networking solutions available from the companies.

The scope of this strategic alliance includes the following arrangements:

NEC will exclusively use Global Marine Fleets for projects awarded to NEC.

Global Marine and OCC, through joint planning and forecasting with NEC, will allocate resources to NEC to best meet their requirements.

The three companies will work together for joint sales and marketing, project planning, solution development. Each may have in-house representatives in respective offices to liaise with the other.

Management team will be formed to support further collaboration between the companies.
Global Marine is the world's leading provider of marine installation and maintenance to the telecommunication sectors, which owns and operates the world's largest, most advanced fleet of cable ships and submarine vehicles. The total market for integrated submarine networking solutions is estimated at over US$10 billion and 200,000km per annum for at least the next three years, according to the industry analyst firm T Soja & Associates, Inc."
