Albert, Hey I can do that Bare Faced lies with a Stearn visage. The trouble is it is hard to look too far down this pipe with current economics.
As I see it the JIT inventory systems that work so well for Dell have also penetrated the rest of the world of high tech, chips etc and even if thay stop parts buying their inventory depth in parts to build with is so shallow that they must soon be out of most parts unless they order now for the summer build cycle. No matter what, that build cycle will prime the pump as it will be a large volume cycle.
Such things as the Y2K wear out of systems acquired in 1998-99 are indeed very true and there will be a replacement bubble there as well. So we now have two pisitive aspects ready to happen this fall. I am betting we will have a huge surge and AMD will ride it better than Intel as their stuff will not be readied until very late in this annual cycle. Already the public is resisting the P-4, as are the corporate desktops. Will Dell be able to stuff the direct buy channel? or will the channel say "stuff you"? and lower dells builds?
