Anand answers some questions: forums.anandtech.com

He has the chip,
He can't publish any benchmarks,
Current motherboards may need new BIOS to support Palomino
He is implying that he verified AMD's benchmark claims.

Joe,
RE:"I wonder if there was a clause in the NDA on no benchmarking. It doesn't seems like these guys even have the chips."

I took Anands pictures and blew them up in Photopaint.
The picture of the Palomino is a 1200 Mhz chip.
The T-bird says 1400.
The mobile one he has painted.

He's got the chips. If he has a board then he must be under NDA.

Someone should buy a Compaq notebook, take out the chip, bench it and scoop the rest of these guys...

Jim

Actually, one could buy a A4 laptop, pull-out the CPU and stick it in a socket-A board, then test it as much as it wants. The packaging is exactly the same. I think it's an error from AMD. They should have used smaller package, making the chip more attractive to labtop makers and would put a clear technical difference between mobile and desktop parts. But, well, I guess its not worth xx$ more a chip.
