Actually if you want to use analogies then this one works better.

Think of this Bear Market as an ancient war being fought for control of a strategic position. The Bears are in control of a fort on a well defended hilltop. The Bulls have the Bears out numbered but they are short on weapons (earnings growth power). The Bulls are receiving limited reinforcements (IPO's and secondary offerings) but supplies and ammunition (FED rate cuts) are coming in all the time.

The Bulls continue to attack the well defended hill. A couple times this year (Jan and April) it has looked as though the Bulls might take over the hill and win the war. Unfortunately the Bears are receiving help too. Although their numbers are limited they have superior weapons and they now they have a chance at cutting off Bull supplies (inflation fears). The Bears continue to fight back the Bulls attack and the Bulls are losing their resolve as even Generals (CEO's), the press (Analysts) and the people (Us) lose their belief that we can win the war.

We need more supplies. Will we continue to get more supplies? Do we have enough supplies to win the war?
