what is your D drive? is it your cd-rom drive? your hard drive?

what seems to be happening here is that you are being given a rather detailed set of troubleshooting steps to follow, but you come back with questions about other things (possibly related, but we don't know) and want to know if that could be your problem. this then becomes difficult for anyone (at least for me) to reply to because we do not know if you have literally followed every step in the recommended troubleshooting document. not knowing this, the result becomes an exercise in jumping around.

for instance, what about the suggestion provided by tc here #reply-15792459 ...

"WORKAROUND: The problem occurs only when Manual, Grayscale, and EconoFast are selected together. To avoid error messages, choose Automatic under the Color tab, or select either the Normal or Best mode under the Setup tab. Selecting Manual, Options and choosing Pattern will also enable Grayscale printing in EconoFast, without errors."

did you give that a shot?

and the question about D drive being inaccessible.... does that error message appear when following one of the steps in the hp document?
hp.com

if so, which one?

i will try to check back in for your reply, bidder. i hope other thread members who feel comfortable helping bidder will add their input.

good luck

:)
