Joe, Re: "Palomino at 1.33 GHz with PowerNow makes a lot of sense for the corporate small form factor computers"

Yes!

This could help facilitate systems which require lower cooling requirements with resultant lower noise. Particularly if thermal based processor management (throttling) was provided. This type of implementation should also allow for protection of the CPU from overheating due to a mechanical failure of the cooling system.

Even in my most intensive applications, the processor is still idling probably 98% of the time. For the other 2% I would appreciate the faster CAD regenerations, printing, etc. and during these brief spurts I doubt the heatsink barely budges towards a higher thermal equilibrium. I selected a system based on my peak computing power needs and appreciate that it is capable of saving 30 seconds here and there. However, for the rest of the time, it would be nice to have the option of running in a cooler and quieter mode.

Just from starting the computer, it takes the socket thermistor a long time (5-10 minutes to reach full thermal equilibrium let alone the overall thermal balance for the computer system (more like 15-20 minutes after opening the case for less than 5 minutes all while the processor was running at 100%).

I suppose I could test this someday if I turned on the distributed net projects - presently THINK and/or OGR. If I do test, I will post results someplace.
