Just an FYI...
Since I am purchasing a new PC in the currently favorable consumer environment, I decided to price out comparable Dell and Compaq PCs.
What I found is that Dell, with fewer bells and whistles, cost $400 more than CPQ.
Perhaps someone can tell me where my comparison went wrong, but here are some of the details:
Presario 5000 series vs. Dell Dimension 4100
1 GHz (Athlon vs. Intel)
128 MB 100 MHz SyncDram
40 GB hard drive
16X DVD
Office Small Business Edition
Upgraded Speakers ($30 add'l on each)
Graphics Card 8MB on CPQ - 16 MB on Dell
12x/4x/32x CD - RW
10Mbps phone line network card
1 adapter card for currently owned PC

On CPQ, I also got a communications headset and 25 RW CD discs.

I don't know why Dell was so much more expensive.....I used comparable warranties (Dell's was slightly better, but not $400 better).
Anyone want to chime in with an opinion?
