You would think the Aussies would be big soccer players but for some reason their national sport looks like a blend of soccer, football, and rugby and is pretty entertaining.

I think soccer is a superior sport for young kids because they lack upper body strength and hand eye coordination that is necessary to play baseball, basketball or football. The one necessary skill for soccer they do have is the ability to run all day.

Here in So. Calif soccer in AYSO is mostly dominated by middle class and upper middle class. The Spanish-speaking community has formed their own leagues and the sport is more central to their very essence. They are lately having some success in AYSO is attracting some Latino kids into their leagues where the kids play on better fields and the social aspects after the game are stressed (pizza and fun).
