combjelly,

But Morgans were always supposed to be a month or two behind the Palominos. I find their presence at the launch of the Palomino to be curious...

But Palominos themselves are delayed, so maybe when AMD committed to Sony, May was 2 months behind the on of the scheduled Palomino ship dates - March.

combjelly, re:I find [Morgan's] presence at the launch of the Palomino to be curious...
Unfortunately, it fits my poor MHz scaling hypothesis though. For Pally's from Dresden that won't run even at 850, just disable some of the cache and sell them as Morgans. Exactly what Intel has been doing with Coppermine. But clearly there are samples of a new stepping or something is improved so that Palomino will run as fast as 1.8 GHz, and certainly at 1.5 GHz.
