Pravin, Even AMD's slowest speed grade will be faster than Intel's flagship processor when on mobile power

No doubt about it, the Palomino is a SUPERB mobile CPU, better than anything Intel has a prayer of matching in the next two months. Some changes apparently have to be made for it to be a higher MHz desktop chip than the TBird, but 1.4 GHz TBird's will "hold the fort" until a revised higher-MHz Pally is ready.

Personally, I think a 2 GHz 0.18u P4 is a thermal impossibility and 0.13 P4's won't arrive until the end of the year at best. And I don't think mobile Tualatins will arrive until August, and their top speed will be 1.26 GHz. The mobile A4's will be able to exceed that, albeit at higher power.

Pravin:

"After reading all the articles and reviews about AMD's mobile launch today, the power of Intel's reality obfuscation machine is quite evident. No one seems to be mentioning the fact the Intel's 1 Ghz mobile chip only runs at 700 Mhz when on battery power. AMD has release six mobile processors today. The slowest is the 800 Mhz mobile Duron. So, even AMD's slowest speed grade will be faster than Intel's flagship processor when on mobile power.

Why isn't anyone talking about this?"

As when the Athy was first introduced, nobody wants to sound the trumpet first, just in case...Nevertheless, it is a matter of a very small amount of time, I'd guess, before the Palomino and Athlon 4 have an entire horn section trumpeting their respective merits...Just too much technology that is too good to be kept off centre stage for any length of time!!!
