Pretty deep analysis on his part. In fact, Ward is full of insightful analysis. Check this out:

Ward: Based on the information I have today, you can go right down the list: Cisco, Sun Microsystems (SUNW:Nasdaq - news), Nortel Networks and Corning (GLW:NYSE - news). If these were great companies a year ago, if they're still great companies today, then forget about 2001 earnings, you want to own the stocks at these prices.

The question is, are they still great companies? And if you don't think they are, you probably don't want to own them, even at these prices. But if you think they are, then you definitely want to own them. But you're going to have to be a little bit patient with them.

So let me get this straight -- if you think it's a great company, you want to own them; if you don't think it's great, you don't want to own them? Eureka -- I think he has found the Holy Grail of stock-picking.

With a probing investment strategy like this, I am shocked that his fund is down about 12% YTD.

This guy must have missed the buy at $13, and now he's trying to talk it down.
