I'm still waiting for the TPC-C scores demonstrating the so-called "superiority" of clusters using single-CPU systems over SMP systems. Right now, the leader in the clustered performance category, as well as the leader in the clustered price/performance category, both use 8-way Xeon systems as the building block for the cluster.

At some point the single x86 systems can't address enough memory and we need a cluster of 64 bit Merceds.
