Two of the main problems with alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydro are: 1) the intermittent nature of production, and 2) distance of the energy source from the market. These are commonly seen as problems of energy storage and transportation. An alternate approach would be to move the market to the energy source, and to modify the application to use the intermittent energy when it is available (this is the tricky part!). Is anyone aware of developments along these lines?
