Well, yes. But even Intel recognizes that the "botched transistor" process was a bad idea in retrospect. By the time Intel got it under control, Tbird was ready and the lead wasn't any more.

Good point though, Intel has not responded well to competition. Every time, they have over-reached, put everything on something new that hasn't been tested, rolled and come up snake eyes, just like clock work. Either they don't learn well, or they figured it was just a fluke...

Yeah, it was the Tbird launch one year ago this June 5 that was accompanied by much hand-wringing over Willamette.

Now we get too-LATE-in fears. :)
