Cisco Announces IPv6 in IOS Software

Cisco Systems announced availability of IPv6 in Cisco IOS Software (version 12.2), scheduled for release later this month. Cisco said its early adopter customers for IPv6 include wireless networks, the gaming and home networking industries; National Research Networks around the globe; and military and government bodies in the US and abroad.

For instance, Sony Computer Entertainment is looking at IPv6 for connecting large numbers of PlayStation2 systems to the network.

IPv6 is being supported in the following platforms: Cisco 800 Series Routers; Cisco 1400 Series Routers; Cisco 1600 Series Routers; Cisco 1700 Series Routers; Cisco 2500 Series Routers; Cisco 2600 Series Routers; Cisco 3600 Series Routers; Cisco 4500 and 4700 Series Routers; Cisco AS5300 and AS5400 Universal Access Servers; Cisco 7100, 7200 and 7500 Series Routers. Early adopter customers are currently in IPv6 trials with the Cisco 7600 and 12000 Series Internet Routers.
