I'm thinking that press release you posed was pure propaganda.

May times, when you have a huge, sentiment changing, order to unload fast, you hit the market with everything you have and then say it's a mistake. This way you do not look like a bad guy for selling and the markets don't get panicky right off.

In addition, when the markets do go down. You can say, "Boy, did I ever get lucky". "I'm such a lucky man for making that mistake".

I suspect the group who sold the huge position new exactly what they where doing (i.e price, time, method and spin control afterwards).

In January 2000, the Generals declared a bear market and the secondary and speculative garbage continued to move up and then collapse. The Generals are talking again.

If the link does not work, it is a simple weekly chart of the INDU for 104 weeks. If you believe that secondary stocks and junk lead the market, you will not see it.
