Wildcats were never 50/50 and you sure don't need a geologist to interpret seismic nowadays. The most successful MWD operator I know quit school in grade 10. Thanks for your information that exploration is high risk, I'll keep that in mind.

Not true. The costs and regulation of US surface exploration justify offshore and foreign exploration, first (the latter being less expensive per barrel). The oil (and gas) are here, just not as appealing.
