Hawk, many thank you for your post. Catholics believe in sinn and Jews in shame! The shame comes from the depth of man's sole! Sinn is superficial, it can be remedied with 10 Ave Maria! This is how His Holiness thinks we non catholics (Jews, Orthodox Christians and Protestants) should behave! Hardly so! I am not asking for the compensation for what was looted by Spanish Crown in 1942 in Toled, Madrid or Granada! Nor I ask for compensation for six million lives lost, or property looted throughout Europe by the Nazi's. I believe history has taken note of that! What matters is put the history right! What I am asking is open admission by the Vatican that they looked elsewhere, while the Rome's Jewish population was put in the cattle carts and shipped to Auschwitz! And his holiness didn't move a finger. Maybe he couldn't intervene on behalf of Jews in Lodz, in Czarnowitz, in Grodno or in Gomel! But Roman Jews? They were his subjects, so close to him! From German archives we have document that shows that if Stadtcomandantura of Rome had order to stop arresting Jews if Vatican had objected! (The letter signed by SS-Reichfuherer Himmler to SS-Standardfuhrer Wilhelm Clausen responsible for relocation of Roman Jews and carrys the date of 23-VI, 1943.) Allied also archives shows that Popes secretary of the State had been sounded by the German ambassador to the Holy See in a meeting. He was asked point blank if Vatican would object to make Rome "Jew free" and he had given "nulla Osta" to the German ambassador! My friend this is a small world, who is fooling who? Maybe all this forgive and forget works with those who are too young to know the truth, but there are those who still remember! So please don't tell me about reconciliation, we come from two different herds, the gap is too wide, and it is getting wider not narrower! There is a Hebrew saying, Shalom ve l'itraot! Go in peace!
