My point was that indeed Intel did the basic work and from there it should not take a lot to implement SSE.

Perhaps your are right that AMD was slowed by a belief in 3D-Now. I suspect that it was a lack of engineering resources to accomplish the tasks on its agenda.

AMD must now develop its own infrastructure and can no longer rely on just plugging its processor into an Intel socket. The slow development of motherboard, chipset and SMP technology has hindered AMD's efforts to succeed.
