hi e re, "the first guy told me to shut down all programs using control alt del before installing, the second said don't bother to shut down anything except Norton anti virus"... the first guy was right, the second guy is trying to get by with the minimum. good computer practice when installing software calls for turning off all background applications, except for explorer and systray. even the installer program, or wizard, that is stepping you through the install process prompts you with a dialog that advises you to do this. can software be installed successfully without closing down any apps whatsoever? yes. have i done it? yes. do i do it often? no. so why shut down background apps? simply because of the risk that they will interfere with the new software being loaded and cause a conflict somewhere. the problem may be very obvious very quickly, or it may manifest itself as an annoying little intermittent glitch. but either way, failing to properly close all running applications is the culprit and could have been avoided. "should i install EndItAll again, do you think?" if you subscribe to the first guy's theory that says to turn everything off, then eia is the ticket. i happen to think it is one of the most helpful little utilities i've come across in years. the difference being, imagine turning off all the lights in your house before leaving, going from room to room, flipping a switch in each location, all over the house. then imagine one switch located right by the door you will exit from, permitting you to turn off every light in one flip of the switch. that is the beauty of eia. nothing more and nothing less. a major convenience. hope this helps :) mark
