"I don't buy it when I hear David Stern and these other NBA guys say they don't want high school kids to come out. If they didn't want them to come out, they wouldn't show up at their games and say, 'Well, we've got to do our jobs in case they leave.' That's enticing for a kid when he sees NBA executives in the stands."

--- Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan

Sounds to me like he's upset because he can only afford to give his players an SUV, not millions of bucks like the NBA.. -g-

"Because of what we fought for with respect to the salary cap --- the tax, the escrow --- any team can compete. We have a sport where money helps, but it just can't flat-out buy a championship. . . . (A structure is in place) where fans have a right over a period of time to hold management responsible if a team can't compete."

--- NBA commissioner David Stern

Portland's $89 million salary (which came within a hair of winning them a championship last year) notwithstanding, I agree whoileheartedly. Unabashed free agency and no revenue sharing make for an uneven playing field between franchises.
