The loss of ozone is caused by chemical reactions in the upper atmosphere that are triggered by the by-products of fossil fuel emissions. The loss of rain forest has nothing to do with it, as far as I know.

As for environmentalist's interest in the issue, I can assure you that there is worldwide interest in stopping this activity. Not only is there wholesale destruction of ecosystems, as well as plant species that might very well hold medicinal promise heretofore unknown, the displacement and destruction of indiginous populations, but the destruction of one of the world's great oxygen factories as well. You may not see big headlines, but I am sure there is pressure both internally and I suspect rising pressure from outside Brazil as well from international environmental organizations and from the scientific community.

<<Is it possible that the destruction of forests in the Amazon has anything to do with the ozone hole in Antarctica??? Where are the environmentalists on this issue? >>

The rain forest is a big remover of CO2. That's the greenhouse gas. Algore has 40,000 shares of OXY, Occidental Petrolium, which is CLEARING a vast track of the rain forest to drill for oil. Al, I'm for saving the Earth but not at my expense Gore.
