If VIA starts taking market share at the low end, you can bet that Intel and AMD are going to have a continuing, long term, price war at the high end. This could be ugly for both companies, but I think Intel has the more to lose.

In a sense, you're right. With much more in the way of resources ("Intel has the more to lose") Intel can last much longer in a protracted war than AMD can. AMD can't afford to undergo a long, continual battle. What was Jerry's statement in a recent call? "We won't participate in a price war", or something like that? LOL! Yes, they will, but they can afford it much less than Intel can. That's the beauty of being #1 in your market -- you have a lot more resources to fight these battles than the (distant) #2 player has.

If Intel continues the fight, AMD will probably go into negative profitability in the next quarter or two.
