Windsock, <A 256 Mbyte PC133 DIMM (80309-A) only $66 on GoogleGear.com That price is down $2 from a week ago. This is non-ECC for desktop use.>

Desktop memory is still based on 128 Mbit technology. Your 256MB DIMM have 16 chips, eight to a side, right? That would mean each chip is 128 Mbit, i.e. 16MB.

On PriceWatchItDrop.com, they're selling 1GB DIMMs w/ ECC starting from $485. But then the price jumps up to $703 by the sixth vendor. Using these prices, loading a 4-way Itanium system with 64GB of SDRAM will cost between $32K and $45K. Sounds expensive, but compared to the RISC competition, I'd imagine that's awfully cheap.
