RESEARCH ALERT-CSFB cuts 2002, 2003 EPS views on Dell

NEW YORK, May 16 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston said on Wednesday it had cut its fiscal 2002 and 2003 earnings estimates for Dell Computer Corp. <DELL.O>, the No. 1 U.S. personal computer maker, citing the potential of a looming PC price war.

CSFB said it cut its 2002 estimate to 70 cents a share from 82 cents, and cut its 2003 estimate to $1 from $1.10.

"We believe Dell will continue to price aggressively in an attempt to push larger competitors out of segments of the PC market," analyst Kevin McCarthy said in a research note. "However, this aggressive stance could lead Dell to sacrifice additional margins."

Dell shares closed at $24.49 on Tuesday on Nasdaq.
