You assume that electric utility companies actually consist of two separate companies, one that generates electricity, one that transmits it. Why is that?

Unbundling the two may be necessary to comply with federal and state law but I don't see any other reason for it, that is, no reason which would be dictated by market forces.

The name of the strictly transmission pipleline co. is Atlas tic APL. I saw this IPO but I didn't really see the implications of what they were doing and why at the time. I will be paying much more attention when the private elec. transmission cos. go public. Ho...ho...ho.
