kirk, i have to say i haven't consistently underestimated the resolve of the chip companies to continue to spend billions in order to make millions. the amat's of the world have benefited mightily over the short term.

since i don't see spending billions to make millions as a viable long term strategy, the chip companies will have false bottoms (where the excesses are not truly weeded out and the day of true judgment is postponed) until they don't.

it is similar to the naz bubble phenomena. i *knew* the bubble was absurd and ridiculous and i knew it was going to collapse. however, i had no clue when.

so, my advice would be to develop a strategy where you can play the false bottoms for upside, if so inclined (and one can make great money off what i believe to be false bottoms), but severely limit downside risk (one can lose their butt when the cards all fall to the ground.

mike burke had a neat system to maximize gains and minimize risk. if you are interested, i'll post the link.
