I agree with you that most kids in this country leave the game of soccer when they grow older. Are you aware that Jason Kidd the basketball player was a soccer player ? He said it was his favorite game but he grew too tall for it.
Also soccer is probably the best youth game in this country in terms of being inexpensive and easy to play. The running skills help them move into other sports. You could always tell on the baseball team which kids played soccer. They knew how to run.
However in other countries the best athletes in the country are soccer players. If I were you I woudn't walk into a Scottish pub and call soccer a sissy sport. Not unless your 6 ft 4 and 220 hard muscles. Even then you might be wise to keep it shut.
