Had a brief chat with a friend of mine who is a well-known Harvard fruit-fly geneticist. She was absolutely fuming at Celera and the short cuts they had taken in their Drosophilia sequencing. Didn't have time to get the details, but one issue was how they had dealt with (or rather not dealt with) transposable elements.
