Actually there is. I have worked a few days for free after being layed off by companies who I knew had to do something. I didn't want to let to the customer down.

Dell, under Vanderslice's IBM scenario, treats loyal employees as potential terrorists within 15 minutes. It hurts a lot to not be able to get your e-mail contacts, or name plate, or research, even tell your friends that you are going. In 15 minutes they can turn motivated employees into those who no longer care if they make a dime or Chapter 11.
