Well, wrongheaded differs only in quality of stubborness, I believe, but I won't cavil. We are not in substantive disagreement.

I am not a pragmatist, except in cases when there is no other test of an idea available. I don't even know how one can be a pragmatist without relying on the truth of one's perceptions and judgments. Either we can know the true consequences of an idea, or we cannot; and if we can, well, who knows what else we may know?......

Ah, mon frere, I completely agree, as usual.
Religions (taken in toto) probably cannot all be true- since many of them are mutually exclusive- and yet they all seem to provide some happiness or security to the people who believe them. I suppose they could all be right in a world where reality is self-determined, but barring that, they are an examples of ideas that are not correct but still functional.
