WatsonFart - Re: "touting the the performance of P4 while playing Quake 3 if during a normal play of the game, the processor is actually subject to clock throttling"

Read their gibberish bullshit:

"Upon identifying the prospect of thermal throttling, Clint observed that an air duct inside his new Dell PC may have been slightly misaligned during shipping. After realigning it and testing at lower ambient temperature the throttling ceased. Peter Soendergaard has stated that he too can no longer duplicate his earlier results. "

These bozos don't even know how to set up a PC !!

They published their data in the "Journal Of Irreproducible Results " !!!

TWY and all, Van Smith of InQuest Research (formerly of Tom's Hardware) responds to an accusation of fraud, especially in regard to the latest Pentium 4 throttling issue:

aceshardware.com
_______

I don't appreciate being called a fraud.

I worked on this project because it interested me and because I saw a need in performing this investigation for the Internet hardware community. I don't know if you've noticed this, but the crash in Internet ad revenue has really put the pinch on hardware sites and most no longer have the resources they once had and, sadly, some of the more desperate sites are turning to the Dark Side and selling out. (BTW, I think the dry up of ad revenue for computer hardware sites is crazy because the importance of these sites to the computer industry is indisputable. Companies like ASUS, ABIT, NVIDIA and perhaps even AMD and certainly many more have been made because of the existence of these independent media providing positive, genuine reviews as well as enthusiasm for these technologies. If independent sites are not supported then these same companies immediately are at the mercy of "established" media -- many organs of which have a painful history of bias and jaded financial entanglements. I could go on and on about this, since this is a very serious issue and threatens the very vitality of our Internet hardware community. Write to your favorite companies and tell them to wake up and get a clue!)

The P4 project was very stressful as well since working on these articles does not create revenue for InQuest and I had to push Bert into doing it while postponing paying jobs. I had to work day and night for many days (we have a lot of data and we ran hundreds upon hundreds of tests).

You can even go ask Tom Pabst about me if you'd like. He may not like me personally (we had a number of conflicts while I was at THG) and he may spit when he mentions my name, but I think he has repect for my work and my motivations, just as I have respect for the quality of work he is capable of doing.

For good or bad, I think the last thing anyone will say about me that knows me is that I am a fraud or a sell-out. I know there are people at the company that are not big fans of mine, but I don't think many people even at Intel would say I was a fraud either.

_______

If you asked me, I'd say his work is genuine, but his history of being anti-Intel will impact his credibility for a long time to come.
