Paul,

re: "More progress (or losses ?) from Intel's Communication divisions"

Thats the question. Undeniable that the announcements from the communications division in the last 24 hours are impressive (especially the BT announcement which implies major design wins).

The trick is to turn that revenue into profit dollars, instead of losing $.65 on every dollar sold, as they did last quarter in "other businesses". And increasing revenue should help, if they can keep their fixed costs from increasing at the same growth rate.

Two/three years from now Mr. Barrett is going to be a hero or a goat.

John

Re: More progress (or losses ?) from Intel's Communication divisions: "The new product family will initially include Intel Pentium® III processor

Given that Intel's com division loses about 30 cents for every dollar of gross revenue it takes in, it is a little scary that Intel is expanding that business, isn't it?

:-)

Hi Paul, "More progress (or losses ?)"

Packet-switched networks are replacing circuit-switched networks. It's a given, right? So, a company that doesn't recognize that will be heading towards losses, not Intel.

Proprietary solutions are exiting, and Intel is entering. Growth has slowed down, but I'd have to concur with Saturn on his prediction that it's probably closer to break-even in some areas, a profit in other areas, and probably still in investment mode in some areas, would be my guess based upon market reports.

Regards,
Amy J
