I like Mark Steyn. He is a funny guy, and often makes good points. But he is describing a cultural reactionary, or better, a phillistine, uninterested in what is going on, or in making discriminations.

A conservative should treasure the classics: "Begin the Beguine", "Take the A- Train", "Strike Up the Band", the wonderful Crosby recording of "I'll Be Seeing You", Sinatra singing "Young At Heart", Nat King Cole singing "Mona Lisa"--- but also Ben E. King doing "Stand By Me", Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice (It's Alright), The Grateful Dead song "Friend of the Devil", Stevie Wonder singing "I Was Born to Love Her", and many more.

Conservatives do not exclude things because they are old or unhip, but they also do not live in a cocoon, with no interest in the world around them.........
