Your mixing Badakshan with Prezhevalski Horses that are small, slow, but have great stamina. Badakshan horses, are Turkman steeds, known for their speed and endurance since the days of Marco Polo.
William Morcrooft was professor of Royal Veterinary College, founded in 1971. He was hired by the East India COmpany in 1908 and went and started the Comapanys' stud farm in Bihr! He badly needed new breeding stock. Either a herd ws to be imported from England or he would go in search of the horses of Central Aisa, that he did! You know horses from Maremma in Italy?

Joe the article is not very accurate! The word Gighitovka is Russian corruption 0f Turko-Tatar word, Gighit, meaning "the Brave!"

By the mid-1700's the line of demarcation that divided the Empire of the Zars in Northern Caucasus was on the River Terek. North of Terek was settled by the Cossaks of the line, or the Kuban Cossaks. ! Over centuries, they had adopted the custume of the their neighbors, dressing in Cherkaska, Burka, Papakh, cayying Kindjals and Shahkas.

They alos learned art of the horsemanship skills of their neighoburs, Kabardian, Lezghinas, Avars, Tushins, Cecens, Ossets, and the word "Gighit" meaning brave, and this is were the Gighitovka (bravery) comes from.

Kind regards

Yaaco
