hey frank

re, "...your precautionary initiative"

i always like to be able to get myself out of a situation as quickly as i got myself into it. <g3>

"5 days without a reboot"

sounds like you are finally experiencing what win2000 is all about. with win95 and win98se i was always rebooting to recover lost system resources. now, with win2000, i have never had to reboot for that reason, and i've been running the os for 6 months. to be clear, i have rebooted for other reasons, obviously. i went a long time without a crash, too. (i was counting down the days here on the thread, much to everyone's extreme boredom!) then i went through a brief spell where i had about three crashes. i changed some things, and have not had a crash in probably two solid months of daily use.

i noticed early on with win2000 that it tended to become fragmented quicker than win98se. but after diligent defragging, the drive's fragmentation level improved. i've always read that that was the case with norton's speed disk (and perhaps other third party utilities), and it encouraged me to see it taking place on my system. i guess that all that moving around of data on the hd really does optimize things.

i'm very happy to hear sp2 has been such a delight for you.

:)
