I have said that there are factors I may not know, and that I am not infallible. Besides, it is rarely my business, except as it affects my personal interaction with the person. However, I will form an impression of another's personality, according to criteria like maturity, depth, sensitivity, seriousness, and so forth, and that partially depends on my view of his emotional reactions. That view is revisable, and not everything that could be better is therefore bad. But yes, I think some reactions are preferable to others, depending upon the stimulus. I think that the trans- cultural understanding of literature and music and art depend, in part, upon universal elements in human emotional responses.
