Only somebody who understands that Americans are not going to give up their SUVs, their 10,000 sf houses, their heated pools, and on and on, all requiring vast amounts of energy which Americans expect to keep coming at absurdly low prices. Gephart was a classic -- arrived in a huge SUV at a meeting to talk about energy conservation.

Personally, I look to leaders for leadership. When I see all the congresspersons who are calling on America to practice conservation changing their own lifestyles, bicycling or walking to work or using public transportation, turning their air conditioners off and opening the windows, walking from the Capitol to the White House for meetings like Jefferson did, driving small, fuel efficient cars, turning off their computers, then I'll believe those are good things to do. But 'till then, I do as they do, not as they say.

And as long as they are going to practice and lead that sort of lifestyle, we need lots of cheap energy.
