At $50/month for DSL, I am not sure if people are still willing to sign up. The key thing DSL is missing is a bundled service: voice/video/data through one phone line with one bill. Cable modem has a big advantage here. The cable guy connects your TV and sets up your cable modem service in one trip. Although people are paying $80/month, because of video, they are hooked and don't feel too expensive. But I agree, it soon will change. Video over DSL is a reality now.

ps, how do you know this DSL chip business is not another commodity business just like the old 56k modem?
